Software Sushi Sentiment Studio

Getting started

1. Launch and connect

Choose t3.medium (x86_64), with 4 GiB RAM and a 32 GiB encrypted gp3 root volume, matching the recommended launch configuration. Require IMDSv2 and attach your own instance profile with Session Manager permissions. Allow the outbound connectivity required by Session Manager. This starter runs locally and does not require a model provider or external database. No inbound application rule is needed. Wait for cloud-init and automatic first boot to finish, then open a Session Manager shell and switch to ubuntu.

sudo -iu ubuntu

2. Open a local browser tunnel

The application listens only on instance loopback port 8501. On your workstation, use AWS CLI with the Session Manager plugin and your authorized AWS profile. Supply your actual EC2 instance ID when prompted. Keep the port-forwarding session running and open http://127.0.0.1:8501 in your own browser. Keep both ends bound to localhost; do not expose the application port to the internet.

read -r -p "EC2 instance ID: " INSTANCE_ID
aws ssm start-session --target "$INSTANCE_ID" \
  --document-name AWS-StartPortForwardingSession \
  --parameters '{"portNumber":["8501"],"localPortNumber":["8501"]}'

3. Sign in with the instance account

Automatic first boot creates ~/.config/sushi-streamlit/access.json with mode 0600. Read it in an unrecorded shell, then use its username and password in the real sign-in form. Keep the other identity fields intact. This is a per-session password gate, not an external identity provider or a multi-user organization account. Sign out to clear that browser session.

sudo -iu ubuntu cat /home/ubuntu/.config/sushi-streamlit/access.json

4. Use text or a small CSV

Try helpful excellent service in the text form. CSV accepts UTF-8 with exactly row_id,text, 1-12 rows, distinct alphanumeric/underscore/hyphen IDs and at most 16 KiB. Use /opt/streamlit/sample.csv for six synthetic examples. Inspect labels and totals, then select Download result JSON. Treat the generated loopback download link as access to that result while the server retains it.

sushi-streamlit text 'helpful excellent service' --output ~/streamlit-results/my-text.json
sushi-streamlit csv /opt/streamlit/sample.csv --output ~/streamlit-results/my-csv.json
sushi-streamlit verify ~/streamlit-results/my-csv.json

5. Restart and preserve the original identity

The demo drives the real running server and independently verifies saved rows; browser appearance remains a separate observation. New output names preserve earlier runs. Back up /var/lib/streamlit, ~/.config/sushi-streamlit/access.json and ~/streamlit-results together while writes are stopped or consistently snapshotted. Deleting identity files does not trigger a safe reset.

sudo systemctl status sushi-streamlit-firstboot.service sushi-streamlit.service
sudo systemctl restart sushi-streamlit.service
